Body aches are usually familiar to all. It can either represent as a symptom of some underlying disease or it can just be a mild representation of body for tiredness after excessive physical work or a slight injury. Body aches are sometimes very persistent, sharp, interment or a dull, which vary in frequency and intensity. In the case of an underlying medical condition, various other symptoms may present along with just a body ache.
Types of body ache:
Acute body aches: As the name suggests, these pains are of acute nature resulting from an illness, injury or surgery. These pains appear suddenly and gradually disappear in a short interval of time on their own with or without minimal medical intervention. Acute pains may be of shorter duration, but it should not always be ignored. If left untreated it may take up chronic form. Acute pain ranges in severity from mild to very intense, which may take weeks to even months to completely subside.
Chronic body aches: Chronic body pains may persist for a longer duration without any apparent cause or even after complete healing of an old injury or even when the illness subsides. The pains may take months to years. The person suffering from chronic pain often finds it debilitating and frustrating to live along with the pain. Normal functioning and dealing with everyday chores become very difficult for such people.

- Change in core temperature of the body
- Cold or flu-like symptoms
There can be many different conditions for body ache; some are easily treatable and managed without any difficulty.
Some pains are typically related to severe medical conditions. Such health conditions that might cause body ache are:
- Unrefreshing sleep
- Cold and flu
- Vitamin D Deficiency
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Lymes disease
- Multiple sclerosis
Lifestyle plays an essential part in maintaining good health. Body pain is the second most common condition after headache complained by young and older adults. Body pain or back pain can be caused by strain, spams or strains in muscles or ligament, swollen joints or arthritic joints.
Some faulty lifestyle habits causing body aches are:
- Bad posture
- Overstraining muscles, ligaments, or joints
- Sudden movements, like lifting or twisting too quickly
- Overly strenuous physical activities
Preventive measure for Body Pain
- Maintaining a proper diet, managing body weight, and BMI, increasing muscle flexibility and strength with physical exercise.
- Adding low impact physical activities to your routine also helps in the prevention of body pains such as walking or swimming. These activities increase the physical conditioning and endurance of the body.
- Maintain good posture while sitting and standing
- Use your legs in lifting heavy objects. Carry heavy objects close to your body, and turn with your legs and not your waist to change direction
- Sleep on your side. Use good, comfortable mattresses.
Acute body pain usually goes off on its own without any treatment.
Some suggestions in managing body pain:
Get plenty of rest. That does not mean stop doing routine activities. Commonly, light activity helps to treat body pain.
Cold/heat treatment — apply ice/ ice packs or a cold compress for a short period several times a day to relieve spasm and acute body pains. Do it for 15-20 minutes until the pain subsides. Elevation after cold therapy gives desired results. Cold therapy helps to prevent nerve, tissue or skin damage. Use warm compresses or moist cloth to loosen the tight, stiff muscles. For full body treatment, hot bath or saunas are the available options. The time limit to use the heating pack is 20 minutes, which should not be exceeded.
