Homeopathy uses active ingredients from the plant, animal and mineral worlds in dilute form. Although it is an evolved branch of the medical field, it is still an area with many questions about its effectiveness. Here are answers to common questions about homeopathy!
Despite the advancement of technology and scientific achievements, traditional medicine does not have a solution to cure all diseases. Therefore, in the reality where we are dealing with many phenomena of chronic pain caused by different causes, alternative therapies come to the aid of traditional medicine with complementary solutions. It was precisely on this topic that Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the German physician who developed homeopathy, worked as a complementary medical treatment, which aims to strengthen the body and relieve symptoms of pain, and today, it helps reduce the use of antibiotics, while at the same time helping the human body to heal itself.
What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an alternative medical treatment, developed more than two hundred years ago. Homeopathy proceeds from the principle that the body, after millions of years of evolution, knows how to fight diseases and must be helped to achieve a balance to enable it to heal itself, just as diseased body tissue regenerates itself. The goal is not to treat the symptoms, but to strengthen the natural immunity of the human being.
The medical guiding principle is – “like with like heals” – that is, the same substances that produce the symptoms of disease in a healthy person, if given to a reduced degree to a sick person, will help him to recover. Homeopathy draws the body’s attention to a defect and thus focuses the body’s healing power on where the defect is.
The basis of treatment is the individual appropriateness of the treatment – a remedy (homeopathic preparation) for the patient. The remedy consists of active ingredients from animals, plants and minerals. These ingredients are diluted with large doses of water and the final product is consumed in the form of drops and/or small round tablets. Today, this method exists as part of the public health system in some countries in the world. It is a complementary treatment that is routinely found in almost all public clinics and some hospitals.
How is the treatment done?
The treatment begins with a thorough interrogation that takes between one to three hours, in an attempt to identify the person and his sensory and physiological mechanisms. In the next stage, the treatment (remedy) is adapted individually. After that, a monitoring examination is performed once a month to check the wide-ranging effects on the patient. That is, in treatment initiated by a complaint of migraine, the effect of the treatment on sleep quality, preferred food, etc. is examined.
Is homeopathy safe to use?
The homeopathic preparation method, by greatly diluting it, produces a medicine that has almost no active chemicals and therefore no risk of poisoning or side effects. In many countries homeopathy is available for purchase in pharmacies without a prescription. Treatment comes in two forms, pellets (small pellets) or in liquid form. The liquid remedy may contain alcohol, but because the homeopathic remedy consumes small amounts of about 2-3 drops per day, the remedy is considered safe for use in pregnant women, infants and children.
The main question – if the substance is so diluted, isn’t that just “water with flavour” with no real effect?
There is a confusion in the concepts that is important to clarify, this is not just dilution, but this is a homeopathic extraction technique in which the material is subjected to dilution while exposing it to vibration at a special frequency. In this technique, the substances are subjected to more and more dilutions and each dilution is repeatedly tested on healthy people in order to find its mitigating properties. It was found in these experiments that when the substance is diluted in this way, its effect on the general functional performance of the organism is strengthened, and it was also found that it is necessary to adapt the level of dilution to the general condition of the patient and the development of the disease in order to achieve recovery.
Placebo/psychological effect or reality based?
“There is no need to believe in homeopathy for treatment to work,” say complementary medicine experts from the Royal College of Homeopathy in London, England. “Infants who receive and respond to homeopathy, are clearly not subject to this effect. There are quite a few scientific studies, in which the placebo effect has been neutralized and which have shown the effectiveness of homeopathy. Evidence of this can be found in an official report issued by the government Switzerland 2012, which expresses its support for the efficacy of homeopathy.
What problems does homeopathy treat?
Homeopathy can be effective in treating a variety of diseases. However, it practically addresses one essential thing – personal immunity. Strengthening immunity, according to homeopathy, helps the body in dealing with pain, which causes people who suffer from it great suffering and is attached to pain medication. In this regard, it should be emphasized that it is forbidden to stop taking the drug regularly without the consent of the doctor when using homeopathy.
Homeopathy is used to treat ailments in children and adults with acute and chronic illnesses – including: allergies, frequent urinary tract infections, ear infections, respiratory problems, skin problems, digestive problems and more. Homeopathy also helps in treating various female problems such as estrogen deficiency, hormonal disorders, menstrual disorders, menopausal problems, fungi, candida, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), various symptoms that appear during pregnancy and more.
